My Favorite Vacations

Monday, February 8, 2010

This is a a hard one to write about.  I have loved every vacation I have ever taken.  Growing up we did a lot of traveling.  We owned a camper trailer that we took on like a 7 week vacation.  We loved driving in it because there was a lot of room to spread out.  We did not like sleeping in it too much.  One of the first nights doing so we got into a fight so after that we spent more nights in hotels then in the camper. We went all across the United States.  my dad lost his credit cards 2 times on this trip.  Once in the Grand Canyon and once in San Francisco.

My favorite place to visit is Disneyland and Disneyworld.  I have been there probably about 10 times.  One time we stayed at the Disney camp ground.  Nichelle and Shaylin loved it there because the characters would come play with them at the little park.  My favorite ride is Indiana Jones.  When I went with all of my sisters the ride broke so we had to walk out of the ride.  That was cool because we got to see what the ride looked like with the lights on.

I also love to visit Yellowstone.  We always seem to see a lot of animals there.  We camp when we go there.  I love to camp.  We love to camp at Goblin Valley, Bear Lake and Sleeping Bear sand Dunes.

Eddie and I have also been to a lot of places together.  We went to New York City and stayed at the Waldorf, we went to Cabo San Lucas, Isle De Navidad Mexico, Hawaii, San Francisco, LasVegas, and new Hamshire just to name a few.

We love to travel.  One time we even drove from Denver to Baltimore in a little car with no air conditioning.  It would be impossible to simply write about my favorite vacation because the truth is….traveling is one of my favorite things to do!!!!!

Favorite Toys I Have Had

These are some of the favorite toys I played with when I was growing up.  The first one I thought of was my top. It was a yellow green color.  I remember once I lost it and I prayed to find it.  I don’t think I found it right away but I think Heavenly father was teaching me I had to take care of my toys and not make such a big mess.

I remember when we moved into our house in Royal Oak the first night we slept on our mattresses.  I remember my Dad coming in and playing Kerplunk with us.  This is what the game looked like.  you pulled out the sticks and hoped no marbles would fall out.

I also liked to play with Clackers.  They were made with big heavy marbles.  The had to take them off the market because people were getting hurt with them because they were so heavy.  They later started making them with plastic but they were not as much fun.

We played a lot of tether ball in our backyard.  My dad moved it at one point so it would stay in the ground better and left a little piece of metal where it was before in the ground.  One time I feel on that metal and hurt my knee.  I remember the missionaries were over so I felt so cool when they helped fix me up.

I spent a lot of time playing Barbie dolls.

My grandma made hundreds of dresses for our Barbie's so we had a lot of clothes. We also had a Barbie house and a  Barbie camper. Ours looked like this.

Another thing we loved to play with was a big tub of colored rice at Grandma Hartmann’s.  She colored rice all different colors and put it in a tub.  She would spread a sheet out under it so we would not make a mess.  We had some really old fashioned toys that we played with like people and blocks that we played with in the rice.

Family Home Evening, Favorite Vacation and Favorite Toy

Okay, so tonight for FHE Lori had the lesson and our task is to write a quite diddy on our Favorite Vacation and our Favorite Toys so generations from now, our Great Great Grandchildren will read it and know a little bit more about us. I am not sure that is such a good thing as they will think we are crazy, but here we go...

My Favorite Toy is still with me today as I bought it off E-Bay. It is a GI Joe 1963 version with Kung Fu Grip. The reason this one is so cool as it has red hair and a fuzzy beard, with a scar on his left cheek. I remember getting a similar toy when I was young and this was during the end of the Vietnam War and we played war a lot. It was on the news and I remember having a bracelet with a soldiers name on it that we were suppose to remember and so playing with the GI Joe made me feel closer to the soldiers in the field. My GI Joe was the greatest warrior of all time and eventually we took on not just enemies from foreign countries, but we combated Aliens which I created out of other toys and then took on the universe to save all mankind. He was a great friend and the world is much safer now for me because of him.

My Favorite Vacation is can't be summarized by one time and location, but a theme. I absolutely love the Disney World experience and remember our first family trip with the Yagers when Nichelle was about 1 and I was able to carry her through the whole few days on my shoulders. She would actually fall asleep in that position with her head on my head and while she was asleep she would rub my cheeks with her cute little hands. We had a blast and watching it through her eyes was incredible. About 12 years later we went back to Disney World with Nichelle, Shaylin and the Barber family and has a blast. It was a vacation/work experience and so we were able to see the behind the scenes and disney and really enjoyed the trip. Finally, this last year we went back to Disney World with Nichelle, Mike, Shaylin, Ashley, Josh and Amanda and it was the best trip yet. Everyone got along wonderfully, we totally conquered all of the rides except one that made my shirt awefully stinky, and my father was even able to join us for the day. The weather was perfect, I dominate in Toy Story, Amanda was able to see High School Musical, Nichelle saw one of her friends in the Haunted Mansion Line, Lori walked us all over the place which brought her joy, and so on...and so on. It was great and so my favorite vacation wasn't one particular, but the memories made at Disney World. My second favorite vacation was a rafting trip with my mom down Cataract Canyon but that is another story but was fantastic!!

Change

Saturday, February 6, 2010

I changed my hair by putting a tint of red in it. The problem is is that it doesn't really show up on the camera. Dad tried to bi level his hair. His change lasted for 2 minutes but it was a change. Josh actually tried to brush his hair. I should have taken a picture of Ashley's change but I didn't think ofit. I was laughing to hard. She even wore it to church this way. She straightened her bangs so they were sticking straight and I mean really straight out!!!!!

Change #2

Thursday, February 4, 2010

Sorry it has taken me forever but I am in college...

Change is power. Change is growth. Change is fun. Change is joy. Change is being breath and vitality. This weeks change is learn something new. Take an hour and learn how to write a good book...play a new sport...learn a new game. Take the time to pay attention to the thing you have always wanted to learn and do it.

I hope to hear all of your results. Maybe with everyone elses changes we will be able to learn something new by being taught by a family member.

Shaylin.

By the way I changed my hair by wearing it down every day for a week.
